Sylvia Cramp - Chair of Governors
I have been involved in primary education for over 30 years in Buckinghamshire, Leeds and Bradford. My many roles have included deputy head teacher and early years co-ordinator. I currently work as a specialist teacher in Bradford with children aged 0 – 5 years. I love working with young children and believe they should have the best opportunities to learn as well as using their imagination and creativity in art, drama and music. My hobbies include singing and baking which are very useful skills to share in school!
I am enjoying working with the staff at Oak Primary and meeting the children during my visits to the school. I particularly enjoyed the Christmas concert last year and giving out cakes and tea during Parents’ Evening.
I have been involved in working in schools in Kirklees for over 40 years. I retired from teaching in 2012 and then I joined Crosland Moor Juniors as a Governor, I wanted to give something back! I have been involved in the coming together of both schools to form Oak Primary and have been very much part of the excitement and challenge that has created. I enjoy visiting the school and seeing first-hand the work of the Oak Team, including the wonderful children.
Education is my passion.
I have lived in Huddersfield all my life where I trained to be a teacher. I have been involved in education for over 40 years, working as a classroom practitioner; Deputy Headteacher and Headteacher. I left headship to take up a post in Calderdale Local Authority supporting a range of schools and leading initiatives for school improvement. I now work as a freelance Consultant, this privileged role providing me with great opportunities to support an array of schools, working with pupils, teachers, support staff, school leaders and governors, as well as leading training and professional learning for trainees, as well as newly and recently qualified teachers.
I am looking forward to my newest role as a governor for Oak CE Primary School.
I have lived in Huddersfield all my life and am employed by Royal Mail as an Operations Manager. I have two daughters who attend Oak in KS2 and have been a governor at the school for nearly five years. My roles include SIAMS, Equalitty and Health and Safety.
I feel privileged to have been part of the amalgamation of Dryclough Infants with Crosland Moor Juniors, and have established good relations with all staff members. I have had the opportunity to accompany both staff and children on school trips, such as the Year 2 trip to Filey, which I will never forget, mainly because the weather wasn’t on our side! I feel my personal experiences through work and the voluntary sector allow me to have a better understanding of the needs of the school and its great ethos.
I enjoy walks around the country to keep fit and my biggest achievement is the three national peaks. I also do volunteering work by feeding the homeless and coaching at the local youth club.
As a child, I lived in Lockwood and went to the local schools, including Crosland Moor Juniors and Moor End High. These gave me a really good start, a happy school life and a thirst for learning that has stayed with me.
I have been a governor at all the schools on this site for more than ten years, initially being invited in my role as Surestart programme manager for the area, and accepting in order to give something back to my local area.
I have worked in a number of senior roles in Children’s Services in local authorities, therefore I try to share examples of good practice if there is a potential benefit to the children and families in our area.
