Children need support to be able to use the internet and technology safely. Try to make time to talk to your child about how they can keep themselves safe. Remind them never to share any personal details like their name, date of birth, where they live or what school they go to. It is important that your child understands that there is always someone who they can talk to, either you, a trusted adult in school or one of the agencies on our links page, should they not feel comfortable talking to someone who they know.

Before you give your child a tablet, PC or games console, have a look at our guidance below.

We would like to remind you of some of the following age restrictions:

TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter and SnapChat (Social Media platforms) – You must be at least 13 to create an account, no one under 13 should have a social media account.

Five Nights at Freddies (Video Game, Movie & often seen on Youtube) – Certificate 12+, not suitable for anyone under 12.

Poppy Playtime (Video Game & often seen on Youtube) – Certificate 12+ (Chapter 1) certificate 15+ (Chapter 2), not suitable for anyone under these age ranges.

Fortnite (Video Game & often seen on Youtube) – Certificate 12, not suitable for anyone under 12.

Call of Duty (Video Game) – Certificate 18, not suitable for anyone under 18.

Grand Theft Auto (Video Game) – Certificate 18, not suitable for anyone under 18.

Always remember to look at the certificate of a film or game before making the decision about if it is suitable for your child. These restrictions are applied for a reason.
